I'm researching the family history of/for a good friend. His great-grandparents on one line were Cecil R. Wood b. 1890/1 Nebraska--probably Custer County and Bertha/Martha (she's listed two different ways on censes) b. 1895. They were married in Nebraska, probably Custer County, in 1912. They had two daughters: Helen b. 1915 and Geraldine, b. June 1919. Bertha/Martha then divorced her husband at some time between 1921-29. I would like to find her full name, and marriage date and place, and, if possible, also her parents' names. Thanks for any help on this. Cecilia L. Rachel Harriet Gallegos, age 36, passed away in South Ogden, Utah on Saturday, February 12, 2005 at 9:30 p.m. She was born in a sod house on a farm near Mason City, Nebraska at the home of her parents, Charles “Charley” and Mary Christies (Swanson) Newman, on December 9, 1918. She was born during the height of the infamous 1918 influenza epidemic. Her mother managed to survive the flu, although sick at the time of Rachel’s birth. Rachel grew up on the family farm with her sister and 5 brothers. She rode her horse to a one room school house in rural Nebraska. Rachel married Merle Dale West in Minden, Nebraska in 1937. They moved to Rawlins, Wyoming where he worked for the Union Pacific Railroad. They lived at 301 Daley Street in the house Merle built. Merle died in 1953 and Rachel briefly married John E. McCall. Afterwards, Rachel worked at the local laundry to support her two children. While later working for the priests in the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church rectory in Rawlins, she converted to Catholicism and married a fellow parishioner, Eliseo “Lee” Gallegos, in 1973. He died in 1995. Her daughter and son-in-law moved back to Rawlins in 1999 to look after her. In 2003, ill health forced her into the nursing home. In July 2004, Rachel transitioned to a nursing home in Ogden, Utah, to be near her son and grandchildren. Her friends and family will remember her for her friendliness and good cooking. She enjoyed watching westerns over and over again, watching television shows (e.g., Shirley Temple, Little House on the Prairie, Doctor Quinn Medicine Woman, and Young and the Restless), whistling and yodeling to old cowboy music, playing pinochle and bingo, reading Guideposts, and embroidering linens. Rachel was a member of the Women’s Circle at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. She played bingo at St. Joseph’s and the Moose Lodge. She also enjoyed trips to visit family and friends or to go for an outing to the country and mountains. She was good natured and spoke kindly of others. She loved her children and grandchildren. She worked hard in life to not only take care of her children, also to financially support them. When her son-in-law left for the Vietnam War in 1970, she welcomed her daughter and grandchildren, Tawnya and Billy, into her home. She had wonderful sayings such as, “I hope I did good by you!” She said hello to everyone she came across in her life. She is already missed by all who knew her. Rachel’s closest friends are many including those from the laundry where she worked, St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, the Carbon County Senior Citizens Center, and nursing home employees, although many have long since died. She is survived by her son Roy Edward West (Linda) and daughter Ida C. Michie, Ph.D. (Bill). She is also survived by more than 7 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren including a great-grandchild named after her. She was preceded in death by her parents, three husbands, sister Roberta Wilson, brothers (Tom, Carl, Milfred, Kenneth, and Don), two infant daughters (Ida Mae and Ida Betty Lou), and her dog Pepper and cat Kitty. I am looking for info on Charles "Charley" Corder. He is listed as a Lodger in the 1930 census at the Custer County Poor Farm. age 57 in the 1920 census he is listed as a boarder with the Francis Family. Does anyone know where the records for this Poor Farm might be? thanks BILL

I am interested in any information available on Alfred and Anna Johnson. Dr. Johnson registered for the draft on 9/18/1918 and on his registration, he listed his premanent home address as Callaway, Custer County, Nebraska. He died in the flu epidemic in the fall of 1918. Thank you!
